Design and Technology

At St Albert’s Primary School our vision for Design & Technology is to inspire creativity, curiosity, and problem-solving in every child. We aim to provide hands-on, engaging experiences that allow pupils to design, make, and evaluate products, using both traditional and modern technologies. Through DT, children develop practical skills, resilience, and confidence, learning to think critically, work collaboratively, and innovate solutions that are meaningful in everyday life. Our goal is to nurture the next generation of designers, engineers, and inventors who are curious, resourceful, and ready to shape the world around them.

The following 5 technical strands are focused upon and built upon as they are revisited throughout the key stages

  • Food and Nutrition
  • Construction and structures
  • Textiles
  • Mechanisms
  • Electrical Systems

Outdoor and residential visits are used to support DT such as the Year 5 trip to PGL where children design and make a raft. We also take advantage of our outdoor Forest school where we build dens and make various structures.
