Maths Stars
Maths Ambassadors!
A warm hello from the Maths Ambassadors! It is our job to celebrate maths throughout the school and that is exactly what we will be doing. We meet with Mr Powell on a regular basis to tell him what we think can be done to make maths even more fun at St Albert’s. So far our ideas of more maths competitions and puzzle days have been a great success and we have plenty more ideas in store.
Remember to drop by to our maths club every lunch time to practice on the apps and play other great maths games that we have available!
Maths Council notes 12/1/18
- Ambassadors commented upon the success of the lunch time app clubs and said that pupils from other classes enjoyed taking the opportunity to practice their maths skills
- It was suggested that as well as giving children the opportunity to use maths apps, that maths club should also give the ambassadors the opportunity to tutor younger children in maths
- Ambassadors requested the desire for inter class maths competitions to be held
Maths Council notes 5/2/18
- Ambassadors have relished tutoring children in maths club
- Ambassadors made clear their desire to host a times table competition after the half term break
- When asked about performing a play which explored a world without numbers, the children were extremely positive
- Children agreed that a maths newsletter which contained input from the maths ambassadors would help to inform the school community of key events in the subject
Maths Council notes 12/3/18
- Ambassadors commented upon the enjoyment they experienced from organising and hosting their own times table tournament
- It was agreed the times table tournament should be repeated in summer term
- Ambassadors suggested that over the next term each class should have a visitor from within the local community to speak to pupils about how they use maths in their everyday life
- Ambassadors commented upon the success of stay and learn and said pupils had told them how much they had enjoyed the event
Maths Council notes 11/4/18
- Maths ambassadors completed display scrutiny around the school. They were extremely impressed with the boards and the amount of numeracy for life that was being shown
- Maths ambassadors now want to deliver an update to every class on progress that has been made in maths this year. This will take place on Friday and the ambassadors will also take it as an opportunity to listen to what the children have enjoyed and how we can improve even more
- It has been agreed that a group of children will support the kitchen staff, looking at how maths is used in our school kitchen on a daily basis
- Maths ambassadors are looking forward to planning the parent fun night which will take place next month
