Hermelin the Detective Mouse
This week we have been reading the story “Hermelin” about a mouse who is a detective. We have been talking about what the word ‘detective’ means and how Hermelin has helped others. We have also discussed Hermelin’s attic and all of the unusual objects. One object was a typewriter so today we explored the typewriter and talked about what it is used for. Miss Jackson explained that they are not used very much today as we now use laptops and Ipads to type notes and letters. We compared the difference between the typewriter and Miss Jackson’s laptop.
Gary and Ilana enjoyed exploring the typewriter by pressing the letters to type on the paper. As the typewriter was very old this took a long time and sometimes did not work, however, this did not deter the children and they were able to use the scroll to start again. Ilana also recognised some of the letters on the typewriter such as those in her name. Gary also pointed at the number 3 and said ‘look that’s my number!’ Well done we have had lots of fun exploring the typewriter today!
