Welcome to Reception!
We are delighted to welcome you and your child to Reception. This year will be full of excitement, discovery, and opportunities to develop a love of learning. Our aim is to create a nurturing environment where every child feels happy, confident, and ready to explore.
Our Learning Themes
Throughout the year, we will explore a range of engaging topics designed to spark curiosity and imagination:
- All About Me – celebrating what makes each child unique.
- Stars – exploring space and the wonders of the night sky.
- Forests – learning about nature, woodland animals, and the changing seasons.
- Super Heroes – thinking about real-life heroes and using our imaginations.
- Growing – discovering how plants, animals, and people change over time.
- The Seaside – finding out about sea life, beaches, and holidays by the coast.

Books are at the heart of our learning. This year, we will enjoy a range of much-loved stories:

Experiences Beyond the Classroom
Learning goes far beyond the classroom walls! This year the children will have the chance to:
- Explore the forest and discover the natural world.
- Visit an art gallery to inspire creativity.
- Enjoy a magical trip to the cinema with their classmates.
- Become a superhero for a day at Space world.
- Visit the local Library and explore a variety of books.
Routines and Home Support
Consistency helps children feel secure and ready to learn.
You can support your child’s learning at home by:
- Reading together daily – even a few minutes makes a big difference.
- Encouraging independence – putting on coats/shoes, tidying up, and making simple choices.
- Talking about their day – asking what they enjoyed and praising their efforts.
- Exploring together – spotting numbers, letters, and patterns in the world around you.
We are very much looking forward to an exciting year ahead and to working closely with you to support your child’s learning journey in Reception. Together, we will make this a memorable and joyful year!
